“What is fascinating about jewellery is the story within them. A story of the moment when the subtext is imagined, the moment the idea is born, the moment the jewel is made and the moment the jewel is worn. And the future of the jewel, how precious all the emotions become and the important part the jewel plays.”
I get my inspiration for my jewellery from time and place, the moment and my surroundings. The designs and the ideas for the jewellery are born around different themes. Nature, animals, plants as well as the city and people are reflected in my jewellery. Everything that happens around me has an influence on the designs of my jewellery and their subtext.
The characteristics of each material add their own flair to the design process and enable realizing different ideas. I use different kinds of surfaces in my jewellery, play with shades, yet aim at an outcome that is measured and timeless. At the AITO design studio in Helsinki, I manufacture small-scale collections as well as orders from customers ranging from wedding rings to christening gifts, accessories and business gifts.
I graduated as a goldsmith from the Lahti Institute of Design in 2002. After my graduation until 2006, I worked at the atelier workshop Union Design. I started my post-graduate studies at the Lahti Institute of Design, in the department of Jewellery and Object Design. In the autumn of 2008, I set up my own company and workshop AITO together with my two colleagues on Fredrikinkatu, Helsinki.
